The Japan-Africa Exchange Scholarship Programme offers grants to post-graduate scholars from Japan and Africa who want to do research in African Studies in Africa and Japan respectively. The Japan-Africa Exchange Programme offers co-sponsored research fellowships for postgraduate researchers from Africa and Japan. African researchers can conduct research at Kyoto University in Japan, while Japanese researchers can carry out research at institutes in African universities.

Eligibility: 

  • Postgraduate researchers from Africa or Japan
  • Must hold at least a Master’s degree
  • Must be affiliated as postdoctoral fellows or faculty members with Kyoto University or one of its African partner institutions
  • African applicants must provide at least one reference letter from a prospective host at Kyoto University

Benefits:  Financial support ranging from €22,500 to €27,500 per year, pro-rated for shorter stays
 Covers living costs and travel expenses
 Research period: 6–12 months, with flexible timing (can be split).
